Deck Analysis: "SOL Debris"

This is a really cool old deck that finally got the boost it needed to be good. Last format Yoshisrdragons and I decided to try and build a SOL deck that utilized Debris Dragon. For some reason we forgot to include Genesis Dragon, despite its obvious merits. That coupled with the limited targets for Lonefire Blossom left the deck as either a generic SOL build with Dandylions splashed or as an inconsistent SOL build attempting to incorporate Tytannial into its mix. With Black Rose limited the deck had very few useful targets to sync for. Needless to say the deck fell apart. Still the skeleton remained.

With the release of the Accel Synchros on DMG many members of the thread dedicated themselves to building some terrifyingly efficient engines to churn them out. Kahu I'm looking at you. Not all these decks utilized dragons, however. I designed a form of "Quickdraw Dragons" in an attempt to use Drill Warrior to reuse Debris and incorporate that into dragons. Again, in retrospect I have no idea why I didn't just use Genesis Dragon.

One of the deck ideas floated around was one attempting to utilize Battle Fader to Accel Synchro via The White Stone of Legend. This deck was thrown around for a little bit, tested with Kinkya-Byo and ultimately abandoned.

Then came Grow-Up Bulb. With the release of Starstrike Blast in the OCG plants received another beautiful Lonefire target. With its addition to the SOL arsenal in addition to that of Pot of Duality SOL Debris finally became a viable option.

The deck is pretty straight forward but I'll give a basic outline of how it runs.

Dandylion and Lonefire are Debris Dragons primary targets, Lonefire searches Dandy, thins the deck and also grabs me a direct route to Grow-Up Bulb. Dandylion gives me tokens to tune with via SOL, Dread or Debris Dragon or even to just act as a buffer for defense. SOL and Bulb are also Debris targets allowing for me to revive SOL for a Darkness Metal summon or to even tune the 1 star tuners with some tokens or other monsters that may be in play.

Debris Dragon is more powerful in this dragon deck than most because it has the ability to serve not only as a tuner via Dandy but also as Cards of Consonance fodder. The separating point between this deck and that do run Debris with Consonance is that it runs Genesis Dragon. In this deck Genesis Dragon has all of its usual utility with my dragons and draw cards, giving me access to SOL/Blue-Eyes and another method to summon Red-Eyes, etc. But it also acts as an instant Drill Warrior in that it allows me to recycle Debris Dragon for reuse. And of course this opens up a Trident Dragion OTK with Debris as well, which the Tokens from Dandylion supplement. Once Genesis dies it can give further targets for my draw cards and more use for my Debris by simply shuffling them all back into my deck should I so desire it.

Formula Synchron comes in and gives the deck advantage through drawing, thanks to CoC and Pot of Duality and Trade-In the deck already has consistency. Pot of Duality was a godsend for SOL decks. However, Formula gives yet another draw to the deck, which when paired with the thinning of Lonefire and SOL means I'm going to be seeing cards when I want them very often.

Sangan is in there to act as a dark, a floater and route to any of my weenie monsters from Dread and SOL to Dandylion and Lonefire.

Gorz should be self explanatory this format. Its dark, its level 7 so it combos with Bulb and SOL and in this field wipe heavy format it provides a nice solid defense.

Sorcerer is a power card as in most SOL decks. They feed off the Lights and Darks and have another 1 Star tuner in the form of Bulb now with which they can make Arcanite. They also provide a solid follow up to a Black Rose and when paired with tokens and/or Formula can make some awesome synchro plays.

Some card choices may not be universal. Most decks will want to run 40 cards and will thus likely drop the Crow. Chaos Sorcerer can be hard to get into play for builds that don't run D.D. Crow due to the lack of obvious Darks. Tragoedia isn't listed because while I was using this in New Zealand it was banned courtesy of Konami and their lovely blanket ruling. Yes I just ignored the fact they banned Genesis Dragon with it as well. Some builds may also choose to run Plaguespreader Zombie over Dread Dragon, or alternatively simply drop the Level 2 tuner altogether.

Some people try to fit Spore and Tytannial into this deck. Thats too many plants that do not contribute anything to the goals of the deck. They ultimately hinder its progress and screw with its consistency.

The Extra Deck is tricky. I have Colossal and Goyo sided as I rarely sync for them outside of select matchups. The choices you make with your Extra ultimately decide what plays you can make with the deck and some OCG players will obviously want a Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier in there.

If you can't afford Duality. Don't worry. This deck maxes out on Cards of Consonance very reliably. Just up that to 3 copies and then you have a free slot.

As for cards you don't see here; Bottomless fits into this deck well also, as does Mystical Space Typhoon. At the moment I'm just trading them around with other cards to see what works best.

The deck meshes well because there are a few plants which combine with the inherent structure of the deck and don't intrude any further. Overall the deck plays like a dragon form of Quickdraw.
